Little Brother

So, my brother has been in and out of trouble for the majority of his life, and nearly all of his adult life. He’s turning 21 at the end of the month. Every single time, we hope that he’s gonna learn his lesson and wise up. And, nearly every single time, he gets a slap on the wrist.

Not this time.

This time he has found himself in real crime. He was already on probation, and before this set of charges, his score (which is apparently how they see what they should sentence you) was a max of 20 years. With all the charges he’s gonna get this time, which include multiple burglaries, he’s probably going to be in there for a long time.

I wish there was more of a focus on teaching coping mechanisms and skills, in the prison system. While we know he needs to be off the streets, we’re worried multiple years in prison isn’t going to exactly teach him how to be a shining star in society when he gets out.

And, even though we know he needs to realize his actions have consequences, it kind of blows my mind that he’ll probably be in there until my baby is not a baby anymore.

So, even though he doesn’t need to be out, if you could take a moment and pray for my brother, pray that he finds some kind of peace. I pray he finds the right book, or hears the right words, that help him wake up to being accountable for his actions and responsible for his future. Thank you.
